Marma Therapy or Marma chikitsa

Marma Therapy or Marma chikitsa is an ayurvedic technique that heals and increases efficiency by removing the energy blockage in various body parts.

Marma in Sanskrit means hidden. Our body is made by the conjunction of various tissues, muscles, bones, and other components. Marma therapy is applying or removing pressure in this junction to maximize the efficiency of that individual.


Marma chikitsa has been known to people for thousands of years. People used the technique for various purposes from wars to daily activities to treating various diseases. The kings and warriors used Marma therapy to enhance their movements and strength. The enhanced strength and speed gained considerable advantages against the opposite party. It could also be used to heal the wounded warriors in the battle.

In more common household’s people used Marma therapy to cure headache, body ache and other common problems. It is effectiveness, low cost and easy to perform gives the popularity and Marma therapy reached to the height it is as of now.

Marma chikitsa points

Marma points are the energy pressure point that are scattered all over the human body. Various are present in various part needed for various purposes.
The three doshas of Marma points are as follows:

  • Kapha (Earth and water)
  • Vata (Air and space)
  • Pitta (Fire and water)
    Doshas are the combination of all the 5 elements. According to Sanskrit and Ayurveda our body is made up of five elements. Fire, water, earth, air, and sky are the things that makes our bodies and us. When the elements and not in right proportion various problems starts to occur in the bodies. The disbalance can be linked to mental, physical, and spiritual problems. Focusing on Doshas one can improve his/her physical and mental well-being.

Location of Marma points

There are total of 107 Marma points scattered across human body. One needs to learn, understand the location and the function of the specific Marma points.
37 Marma points are located on head and neck region, 26 in your trunk, 11 on the limb and 37 scattered on other parts of the body.

How to have a Marma massage?

The best thing about having Marma therapy is that you do not need to be a certified trainer that trained for years to be able to perform it.
It is a pretty simple technique that improves the blood and energy flow within the body.
The steps one need to follow to perform Marma message are as follows:

  • Learn about the location of Marma points in detail
  • Learn to gently massage with your finger tips
  • Keep on massaging the Marma point for a limited period of time
  • Using natural oils, herbs and massage oils can boost your Marma therapy process
