Detail of 5 Different karmas included in School for Panchakarma

Vamana (emesis)

Vamana of the panchakarma is medicinal vomiting or medical emesis. It is an ancient technique where the process of vomiting is used as medicinal technique to heal the body in various ways. The main purpose for which Vamana is practiced is to balance the khapa in the body. It helps to get the toxic present inside our body through the process of vomiting. However, Vamana of the Panchakarma should not be considered a haphazard technique because just the process is vomiting. Various rules and regulations should be followed to accurately practice Vamana.

In our School for Panchakarma, Vamana therapy is practiced early in the morning. During the morning time our stomach is empty which is the must for practicing Vamana. Another thing that happens in the morning is that Khapa is very high in the body.

The therapy starts a day or two before the vomiting of the toxic. From then the person who will be getting the therapy will get some herbal medicines and ayurvedic ingredients. Then in the actual day of the therapy also before practicing Vamana various medicinal drinks and ayurvedic medicines are taken. These medicines when reaches into the intestine dissolves the toxic that is present in stomach.

Depending upon the level of therapy, intensity of the khapa present in the body and condition of the body various other techniques are also done to aid the process. Like, applying mind heat to the front side of the belly or to the back as per requirement in the therapy.

After this process the melted Khapa comes into the upper cavity of the stomach. Then with self-effort vomiting is done. The herbs and medicines that were taken also aids the process of vomiting. With this the intense khapa becomes balanced and the toxic will exit the tissues of the body through vomiting.

After Vamana therapy proper rest is needed with the balanced food for few numbers of days.

Virechana (purgation) in our School for Panchakarma

Virechana is the second of Panchakarma. It is the process of cleansing and intoxications through the process of bowel movement. It is an anciently ayurvedic medicinal technique where bowel movement is used as a method to balance the pitta in the body. The presence of unbalanced pitta in the body can hamper the body in various ways and disturb the proper functioning.

Virechana is the important step of panchakarma. The process of Virechana also starts a day ago of actual therapy. The person who is going to be involved in therapy gets various medicines, herbs and tea to during. The process goes deeper with oleation where the medicinal oils and ghee are applied inside as well as outside of the body. Another important step of Virechana is the fomentation of the stomach as well as back of the person.

After this the individual is given the natural medicines and ayurvedic ingredients to aid their bowel movement. This process removes the toxin present in the tissues through bowl moment. Generally, Virechana is done after 3 days of Vamana. The virechana process will once again balance pitta in body by removing the toxins through bowel movement.

For beginning Basti the tub is filled with herbal fluids and medicines. Then the fluid is let in through the anus and into the large intestine by bending the knee forward.

The process is to relax your muscles and try to let in the fluid through the anus and inside the rectum. This process may be difficult and little bit awkward for the first timers but in time it will show be to of enormous benefit. Then the fluid is held inside for some time and expelled out of the body.
This process is repeated till the instructors advise to stop or the bowels are clean.
